The challenge: finding credible ways to connect
In 2018, Opendoor was expanding rapidly into new U.S. markets. Paid channels like online ads, radio, and direct mail gave them national visibility. But they overlooked local visibility.
Real estate decisions happen at the neighborhood level, and homeowners wanted to meet the people behind the brand before considering offers on their homes. Without that credibility, Opendoor risked slower adoption and weaker lead conversion in every new city.
The challenge was finding credible ways to connect with residents face-to-face, at scale, as the company expanded into new markets.
We wanted to get in front of as many people at as many relevant events as possible, so we can educate them on our service and put a human face to our brand

Our solution: building awareness with local event sponsorship
We helped Opendoor break into new markets by sourcing local events and sponsorship opportunities tailored to their growth goals. Our expertise in regional outreach meant we could quickly identify gatherings that aligned with their target audience and brand needs.
By piloting opportunities in Raleigh, Atlanta, and Orlando, we showed Opendoor that strategic local events could provide the visibility and community connection they were missing from national campaigns.
This solution gave them a clear and repeatable way to establish a local presence in every new market they entered.
We needed a partner to help us identify sponsorship and event opportunities specifically at the local level so we could build awareness and educate customers on our service.
Our process: connecting OpenDoor to communities
We built a process that allowed Opendoor to enter new markets quickly and with credibility:
- Researched events within the target timeframe and markets, prioritizing those that reached homeowners.
- Vetted and selected opportunities based on attendance and fit with Opendoor’s audience.
- Secured placements and sponsorships through direct relationships with organizers.
- Handled fulfillment and payments, so participation required minimal lift from Opendoor’s team.
- Coordinated logistics with event staff so Opendoor could focus fully on homeowner engagement.
The roadblocks: weather as a success barrier
Finding the right opportunities wasn’t always straightforward. In Raleigh, the summer heat made it difficult to source outdoor events that could still draw strong community attendance. Many gatherings attracted limited foot traffic or didn’t match Opendoor’s target audience.
We expanded our search criteria, vetted more options than usual, and focused on family-friendly events with proven turnout. This extra scrutiny ensured that even in challenging conditions, Opendoor maintained consistent placement at well-attended community gatherings.
The results: 90,000 local impressions in one month
In one month, the events we secured delivered more than 90,000 local impressions for Opendoor in a brand-new market. These placements generated dozens of homeowner leads. Opendoor made offers on these properties with several progressing to signed contracts.
Just as importantly, the events gave Opendoor a trusted local presence. Meeting homeowners face-to-face helped build comfort with a new way of selling a home, something that national advertising alone could not achieve.
The results spoke for themselves: measurable lead flow, early conversions, and stronger community credibility.
Key results:
- 90,000+ local impressions in one month
- Dozens of homeowner leads generated
- Multiple offers converted to contracts
- Trusted local presence established
- Expansion into 9+ U.S. cities
Zipsprout provided us with a great opportunity to build a local presence, meet customers where they are, help them feel comfortable with us, and put a face to our brand. From a metrics standpoint, they were very successful. The events performed in line with my highest hopes.
What’s next?
After the early success in Raleigh-Durham, we expanded our partnership with Opendoor to secure events in multiple U.S. markets, including Atlanta, Orlando, San Antonio, Tampa, Dallas, Houston, Nashville, and Minneapolis.
This work created a scalable approach to local marketing that Opendoor continues to use when entering new cities. By making event procurement part of their growth strategy, they gained an ongoing channel for fostering awareness and community trust.
